Continuing hunting out the missing Siderfin entries in the census. I could just do a global look for Siderfin on FMP but that is over 2000 entries. Doing it piecemeal is perhaps slower in the long run but lets me sift through a whole lot of data all at once. Time will tell which would have been the best method. I still have two people on the 1841 census that I can not quite place into their family lines. Will continue with them today but gradually the lines are falling into place.
I also continued looking at the 1524-7 subsidy for Pencombe just to ensure that I have not missed anything. I did find a John Tyncam at Stoke Damarel in Roborough Hundred which is a distance of 60 kilometres from Gidleigh which is substantial but Gidleigh to Stoke Damarel is all in the Plymouth area but I did make note of this entry. I am about half way through the entire Lay Subsidy for Devon. It is an interesting time preceding the introduction of Parish Registers (1538) and does capture many people in an area as wage earners were included. I do have the Tax Subsidy of 1544-45 and 1581 in comparison to go along with this new set of data so does give an interesting look at the 1500s which takes us from Henry VII to Henry VIII to Edward VI to Mary to Elizabeth I. It is a difficult time in genealogical research because the parish registers are just beginning so that most of the information concerns the landed peoples in England rather than the bulk of the population. But these Subsidies do capture, on occasion, a large portion of the people. The spelling is erratic and there are still a few who have resisted surnames so that you have forename and of whatever like Hill etc. The documents you most need to look at like Manor Books are all in Latin and my skills are growing very slowly in that.
I also need to do some DNA work as I started my usual yearly task of incorporating all new matches into my phasing of grand parents and also started working on phasing great grandparents but that task has not had much input by me in the last couple of months. So my busy research time in the new couple of months will quite consume my mind but already I am contemplating setting up my indoor greenhouse to get plants started for the spring planting. Life is just very busy. I also need to get back to blogging Edward's research and the material that he bought on ebay. Perhaps I need to hire someone to help me with all this work I have taken on although not likely as I would lose all that time to getting that up to speed.
I find my mind wandering a little these days thinking about this whole business involving Ukraine and the illegal war that Russia has started and continues in spite of the so-called Peace proposal by China. Who really is the audience for all of this? I begin to think it is the American people as Russia and perhaps China attempt to drive a wedge between the EU/UK and North America by trying to influence the American people against helping in Ukraine. The Americans are a huge block both in people and materials; Russia and China know that America can very quickly convert from peace to war; they have done it twice in the last century when threatened. We are seeing all these lies being said by Russia and perhaps China to influence the Republicans in the United States. Russia and China saw the effect of lies about the legitimacy of the last election and how one individual has managed to garner public opinion in the Republican voters to his side so Russia and perhaps China have engaged in a war of lies about NATO that they continue to bring to every meeting and the news feed whether it be the UN or the G20. We watched Russia in 1945 as that country forced all of the countries of Eastern Europe behind an Iron Curtain after the Second World War calling that area the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. Their greed for land and treatment of the peoples in Eastern Europe resulted in the creation of NATO so that we would always be ready for any aggression by Russia. Russia, as the central core in the Soviet Union, destroyed itself by going to war in Afghanistan in the 1980s and we, being the good neighbours, helped Russia back on its feet in the 1990s only to be treated to their emergence once again as an aggressor nation. Do they never learn? Where is China in all of this one might ask? Not sure yet. It appears China has dabbled in our politics here in Canada for the last decade although there have been comments many times about that but mostly ignored. Personally I think we should continue to ignore it; letting it consume our news feed is a waste of time. The only benefit is making sure Canadians know that China tries to influence and we need to watch for that because their only aim is to split the friendship between Canada and the United States (at least it would appear to be that; they could prove that to be an incorrect thought). China does have the opportunity to take a stand here and denounce what Russia is doing. Supporting a country of 140 million against the rest of the world is problematic for any country in this modern age of unified economics. We wait on China to resolve the Conflict in Ukraine and tell the Russians to get out of Ukraine. If Ukraine stops fighting then Russia will just annihilate them. Glory to Ukraine. Death to the Nazi Psychopathic Russian invaders.
On to my day and it will be a research one again. I did go outside and clear my laneway and there wasn't enough snow for the company to come. I find it a little annoying to have to clear away a snow pile at the end of my laneway created because a neighbour parks his vehicle in front of my house when they are clearing making it difficult to do the best job. In the winter it would be nice if people kept their vehicles in their own laneway. They can move it in and out when the plow comes. I had to do that before I got the garage cleared out. But other than that the laneway looks great now and ready for the next deluge tomorrow which the company will clear away. Mostly I hardly look out the windows these days except to enjoy the snow and the birds that come to the feeder. Research has consumed me.
Since I am dabbling into things today I rather think evicting the Sussex family from Frogmore has more to do with protecting State secrets since Harry does not seem to be able to control what he repeats. I doubt that King Charles would make such a move without consultation and the government certainly does not want to have someone so close to the conversations that take place in the royal circle that has proven to be prone to repeating everything or perhaps even embellishing everything that is supposedly said to him (and it would appear to support his lifestyle). Harry chose America; it is the land of free speech and he should be happy there. Moving Andrew to Frogmore would seem to be appropriate given that one of his daughters and her family are living there or were. Then the Royal Lodge could be set up as a place for the public to visit and remember Queen Elizabeth as this was her childhood country home. I think that would be an excellent idea and a lovely memorial for Queen Elizabeth. Time will tell.
